SNAP Program At Work – Students Learn Importance of Hygiene

Students from Crownover Middle School in Corinth, Texas were profiled in an article by the Denton (TX) Record-Chronicle for their National Recognition Award given by the Healthy Schools, Healthy People, It’s a SNAP!” Program.

SNAP – the School Network for Absenteeism Prevention – is a joint project of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Health and Human Services, and The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA). SNAP challenges middle schools to develop programs that make hand hygiene a priority for students, teachers, school health personnel, administrators, and parents.

Crownover received an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. for three students and a reception in their honor, as well as a celebration at the school. Two SDA member companies provided additional donations:

The Dial Corporation presented a $2,000 check to support school hand hygiene efforts and a product donation of hand soap for the entire school. GoJo Industries, Inc. will be donating hand sanitizers for every student in the school.

Additionally, the Glo Germ Company, which manufactures educational materials for hand hygiene, will donate its “World of Germs” kits to the school.

While in Washington, Crownover students and staff met with U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and their U.S. Representative, Michael Burgess (R-TX). A legislative aide to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) presented letters of accommodation to the Crownover delegation during the SNAP awards reception at the Hotel Washington.
