Laundry detergent "alternatives" claiming "structured" water as their active cleaning system are promoting ineffective products that are based on false science. Their purported "structured" water mechanism defies the laws of nature and is not supported by scientific scrutiny. These "alternatives" clean no better than water alone, so it may be more cost effective to use just water, if that meets your cleanliness standards. In contrast, traditional laundry detergents are carefully formulated to clean clothe s effectively, as well as to go down the drain safely and to cause no harm to the environment.
This technical review was done for SDA by Ronald L. Jacobsen, M.ChE., a consultant to the cleaning products industry who spent more than 35 years in research and development specializing in laundry and dishwashing products and applications.
